The room I kept

A warm reading room with an open window and a quiet chair

I kept one room inside myself

with a chair by the window

and no audience.

Here, my thoughts could arrive

without dressing for approval.

Here, being alone

was not the same as being lost.

A note on this poem

Solitude becomes generous when it is chosen. A private inner room can hold reflection, rest, and the first draft of a new self.
