What the silence keeps

A solitary figure beside a quiet window with a pale blue moon

The silence kept my name

after I stopped saying it

to people who would not listen.

It kept the shape of my hands,

the small blue hour before morning,

the part of me

that never needed permission to begin again.

A note on this poem

Silence can be a place of return. When the noise falls away, we often find the self that was waiting underneath it.
